• Interstate 69 Route Projects & Planning - South Texas

 

SAN PATRICIO COUNTY

>> Bids are expected to be taken in 2011 on a new US 77 overpass at the intersection with Business 77 located at the north edge of the city of Sinton. This $12.8 million safety project is being funded by TxDOT through Proposition 14 bonds. This will be the fifth overpass on the Sinton Relief Route of US 77.

>> Work is complete on resurfacing of US 77. One project stretched 5.5 miles north from Sinton and the second 4.2 miles south from Sinton. Both projects were funded through the federal economic stimulus program.

NUECES COUNTY

>> Work is complete on a $20 million freeway extension on US 77 in Robstown including an overpass of FM 892. The project added 1.8 miles to the freeway.

>> Detailed construction plans are being prepared for a project that would include closing a gap in the US 77 main lanes in Robstown and building a new connector to SH 44 heading east toward Corpus Christi. No funding has been identified for this project.

>> A new 4-mile US 77 relief route around the City of Driscoll has been designed as part of a regional US 77 upgrade environmental assessment. Environmental documents are under review. No funding has been identified for this project.

KLEBERG COUNTY

>> Engineering work is underway on a new overpass on US 77 over Caesar Avenue in Kingsville. Caesar serves the north entrance gate of Kingsville Naval Air Station. It will be the sixth overpass on the route through Kingsville and will complete a continuous 3.5-mile urban freeway section. This project is funded in 2012.

>> A new 3.5-mile US 77 relief route around the City of Riviera has been designed as part of a regional US 77 upgrade environmental assessment. Environmental clearance is under review. No funding has been identified for this project. It was identified as a priority by the Segment Four Committee.

KENEDY COUNTY

>> Engineering work is underway on a new overpass on US 77 at Sarita. It would allow Sarita School Road to pass under the freeway lanes. No funding has been identified for this safety project.

WILLACY COUNTY

>> A 3.3-mile section of US 77 freeway between Lyford and Sebastian is expected to go to bid in 2011. It will include a new overpass. The total project cost is estimated at $30.4 million.

CAMERON COUNTY

>> All 37 miles of US 77 through Cameron County is at Interstate Highway Standard.

>> The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA) has opened the first leg of the SH 550 Toll Road leading from US 77 to the Port of Brownsville. This connector is identified in federal law as part of the I-69 corridor. In 2009 TxDOT allocated $36.5 million in federal stimulus program funding to this project.

>> Direct connectors to US 77 from SH 550 will be constructed under a pass-through financing agreement between the CCRMA and TxDOT. The project was selected for $25.5 million in financing assistance in May 2011.

>> The CCRMA has accepted proposals from two developers and is considering selecting one for a public private partnership to potentially finance and construct several projects including portions SH 550, US 77 relief routes and a second causeway serving South Padre Island.

BROOKS COUNTY

>> Pass-through financing has been approved for a new overpass on US 281 at FM 755, near Encino and approximately 40 miles north of Edinburg. The Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority (HCRMA) will provide up-front financing for the project estimated at $9.2 million.

>> Construction began in 2009 on six miles of freeway on US 281 through Falfurrias. The $88 million project is being funded through the federal stimulus program. Completion is expected in 2012. It has been designated a toll facility.

JIM WELLS COUNTY

>> A new overpass on US 281 at FM 2508 in Ben Bolt was opened to traffic in the spring of 2011. The project includes 1.8 miles of freeway. The $15.6 million project was funded through the federal stimulus program.

LIVE OAK COUNTY

>> Construction continues on reconstruction of a one mile section of US 59 in the City of George West. The project starts at the intersection with US 281 and runs west to near Lagarto Road and includes a new bridge structure. The $25 million project is being funded through the federal stimulus program.

>> A new US 59 highway bridge is being built over the Union Pacific Railroad at George West. It will eliminate an at-grade rail crossing that can block traffic moving to and from Interstate 37 from the southwest on US 59 and the south on US 281.

>> A 4.5-mile project to add new lanes to US 59 between I-37 and George West, including a new Nueces River bridge, has been completed to four-lane divided standard.

WEBB COUNTY

>> TxDOT has been building overpasses and freeway lanes on Loop 20 which will be the connection between Interstate 69 (US 59) and Interstate 35 and the international border bridges at Laredo. This includes two miles of freeway starting at the World Trade Bridge and a direct connect interchange to I-35.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

» Counties on I-69 Route
