The February edition of the Texas County Progress magazine includes a story highlighting the unveiling of new I-69 signs on the newly designated highway section in Nueces County.

Texas County Progress is the official publication of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas and includes a monthly section highlighting Roads & Bridges.

The report includes photos of the unveiling ceremony and a speaker's platform full of state and local elected officials. There are photos of Fred Underwood, a member of the Texas Transportation Commission, and Polk County Judge John Thompson who were among the numerous speakers at the event.

The story concentrates on the remarks of Commissioner Underwood who noted that the new section of I-69 had already been added to the newest version of TxDOT's Official Highway Map. The new 6.2-mile section connects to Interstate 37 and is in the city limits of Corpus Christi and Robstown.

Underwood said, "The interstate (section) we are recognizing today may be short in length, but it looms large in significance. The vision for I-69 is as big as Texas itself. When completed, this interstate will travel from the border with Mexico, through South Texas, the gulf coast, and the piney woods. As the first segment of I-69 in Texas, this region has plenty to be proud of."

The Texas County Progress report also quotes Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal who called the first it "a truly great day in the interests of economic development, interstate commerce, transportation excellence and prosperity for our region." He said, "This long-awaited event marks the beginning of even greater things to come."
